Giants in the City Installation  August 1 to 6

The 2010 Summer Exhibition of Giants in the City, an inflatable sculpture public Art Project by founder and curator Alejandro Mendoza features 22 giant sculptures fabricated in nylon, inflated, and supported upright by a continuous supply of air through the interior.

A family day on Tuesday, August 3 from 10AM to 1PM includes arts and craft projects for youngsters, tours and interactive performances with the giant sculptures. Sponsored by Irreversible Magazine.

The exhibit closes with a giant reception on Friday, August 6, 7 to 11PM with music and refreshments.

Third Annual Artistes en Herbes     August 29 to 31st                                            A project of the Jewish Art Center Corp., the exhibit showcases the work and training in visual arts of young artists ages 5 to 11 in the S.L.S> Art Academy. Environmental Cubism                       September 19 to 21                                   PIAG Museum presents a visual art installation on the Great Lawn with more than 20 artists depicting Earth & Water: Our Planet, Our Life theme in 3-dimensionsl cube format.     Summer Art Program

Classes every Tuesday        10AM to Noon     

The Garden’s Art & Craft Summer Classes are held every Tuesday morning from 10 AM to Noon. Instructors Winsome Bolt and Denise Marlow have designed a creative program of art activities with a focus on environmental themes, using plants and recycled materials. $10 registration fee, classes free. Elusive Landscape         Saturday, September 11 / 9 -11PM

The Elusive Landscape video installation by artist Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez will be projected on the Great Lawn for one night only. Designed to promote environmental awareness and celebrate Miami's lush urban greenspaces and natural eco-systems, Elusive Landscape features images of Miami landscapes that are projected into the foliage and trees. The artist creates films by hand-renderings, drawing and coloring strips of 16mm celluloid. Rodriguez and Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator, Inc. won the 2009 Knight New Work Award by Funding Arts Network, an initiative of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Saturday, Sept. 25 / 9AM to 4PM Cactus and Succulent Show & Sale The South Florida Cactus and Succulent Society presents its fall plant show and sale with specialized vendors and wide array of species. Along with demonstrations on the care and feeding of these prickly plants, Corine Ferré will lecture on the use of cacti and succulents in the landscape, medicinal use and edibles.
