Coastal Conservation Education Workshop: Guided Nature Walk and Bioblitz

September 13 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join the Institute for Regional Conservation and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, with support from Miami Beach Rising Above, for a guided nature tour at North Beach Oceanside Park on Friday, September 13th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

IRC and MBBG will host a fun and educational nature walk within the tropical hammock and beach dunes and discuss the importance of coastal conservation. Volunteers will learn how to identify coastal native plants, the importance of building a biodiverse dune system and how to that helps to protect our coastlines against storms, and so much more. We will be using the app iNaturalist to “BioBlitz” local flora and fauna that we encounter on our nature walk. This is a wonderful way to participate in citizen science.

This event is open to all ages and no experience is required! So grab a friend and come out and learn more about South Florida’s dune ecosystems. Whether this is your first volunteer event with us or you’re a repeat volunteer, we are so excited to have you join the IRC family and see how much we have at our volunteer events.  Be sure to wear comfortable clothing for the outdoors and sunshine. Hat and sunscreen are recommended.

Sign up to come along or email Liz Dutra at ldutra@regionalconservation.org with additional questions. A confirmation email containing all the event details will be sent to all registered participants on the day prior to the event.

PLEASE BRING A WATER BOTTLE, SNACKS, SUNSCREEN, HAT, SUNGLASSES. WEAR CLOSED-TOE SHOES.
