Jeanspiration Workshop with Astrid Zayas
In this self expression class, you will explore your creativity by customizing, embellishing, and creating a bespoke one-of-a-kind denim garment. You will play with techniques such as embroidery, patchwork, stenciling, and distressing, allowing you to transform your denim into a personalized and meaningful work of art. Repurposing teaches you: new skills, self-reliance, confidence.
Bring the denim item you want to work on and any meaningful mementos you would like to add to your denim piece. For example:
• piece of a t-shirt • bracelet from a trip • turtle from a napkin • butterfly from a bag
Materials provided: Scissors, embroidery kit, patches, stencils, distressing kit, glue, sewing materials, pieces of cloth, bling bling – plus samples and ideas to guide you in your creative process.
Tickets – Ages 14 & up: Non-members $65/Members $58.50 (call for code)

Astrid Zayas is a multidisciplinary artist who is always seeking new ways of transforming clothes into wearable objets d’art. A forward thinker whose commitment to questioning convention, sparks her freedom to create. Astrid doesn’t create fashion simply for the challenge of the new and different; her designs are the embodiment of her personal philosophy—the intersection of the whimsical and spiritual—and much like her, are many-layered. A hat in Astrid’s world is never just a hat; it may be a diviner of the future, or a portal to the stars, or perhaps a place where meaningful connections are forged. And if you ask her how that’s possible, she will proudly tell you her hats are “Astri”-logical. In addition to being a Certified Image Consultant, Astrid has a BA in Marketing, an MBA in Business Administration, and is a former fashion model.
