The Miami Beach Orchid Society is excited to present our Winter Deep Science Series, a captivating lineup of events designed to deepen your understanding of the fascinating world of orchids and plant science. This season, we’re thrilled to welcome renowned plant pathologist Dr. Romina Gazis, who will share her groundbreaking research on orchid diseases, along with Dr. William Grant Morton, an expert in orchid conservation, who has extensively studied the preservation of rare and endangered orchids. Rounding out the series, Tomas from the Tarzane Group will provide a unique, interactive presentation on how to grow miniature orchids in hot climates. Whether you’re a seasoned orchid enthusiast or just beginning to explore this captivating hobby, our Winter Deep Science Series offers an unmissable opportunity to learn from some of the foremost experts in the field. February 26, 2025 – Dr. William Grant Morton – Orchid Conservation through Micropropagation and Seed Saving

 

Join us at the Garden for this month’s meeting and talk with Dr. William Grant Morton. Dr. William Grant Morton is a dedicated botanist and conservationist with a profound passion for nature. He holds a Ph.D. in Botany with a specialization in Ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has devoted his career to the study and preservation of rare and endangered orchids. Before joining The Jewish Leadership Academy in Miami, where he now continues his conservation efforts, Dr. Morton made significant contributions to advancing orchid conservation techniques at the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Micropropagation and Conservation Seed Bank Laboratories. He will share insights on these techniques and discuss his current conservation endeavors. The evening will begin at 6:30 pm with our “Orchid Rx” session. Following that we’ll have “Orchid Show and Tell” where you can bring in any orchids you’re proud of and share your growing techniques with the group. We can’t wait to see you!
